Visitors had that warm festive glow at Avoncroft Museum's Candlelit Christmas

MORE than 800 people visited Avoncroft Museum on Saturday for the annual Candlelit Christmas event.

The event suffered an early setback when there was a powercut at the venue but power was soon restored and it did not affect a super seasonal evening.

The snow machine at the entrance set the tone for the festive extravaganza and there were also rides on the miniature railway and performances of classic Christmas songs by Vintage Class, along with Carols in the Bringsty Chapel by Got2Sing.

Two sets of Morris Dancers had a ’round and about’ (dance off), there was Fabularium, the magical moving tree, Monty the Jester performing breath-taking fire tricks and several local choirs and a hand bell group performed live.

Re-enactors showcased Yuletides of yesteryear and Father Christmas also wandered around greeting guests.

And there was a Christmas craft fair in the Guesten Hall.

Historical re-enactors also took visitors back to experience Yuletides in the 1950s and in Tudor and Victorian times.

A spokesperson for the museusm said: “It was a lovely start to the festive season.”
