'Refresh Rubery' to come to the village as part of Bromsgrove Festival

Bromsgrove Editorial 25th Jun, 2017   0

REFRESH Rubery is a new arts event which comes to the village between 11am and 3pm next Saturday, July 1, as part of the Bromsgrove Festival.

It will feature a multitude of activities, including performances by children from Beaconside and Holywell primary schools, along with Richardz Dance Studio and young people from Rubery Youth Club.

The day will begin with Beaconside School’s family Colour Run in St Chad’s Park and continue with St Chad’s Church Craft Fair and free activities outside the Co-Op.

Cream teas can be booked at the Polly Put the Kettle On tea room later in the day and bunting can be made to decorate the performance area.

A large pavement art project led by young people will develop throughout the day and costumed members Madcap Theatre will be performing ‘pop-up Shakespeare’ in unexpected locations.

Businesses are taking part in The Great Rubery Art Hunt where works by schoolchildren and local artists will be exhibited in Rubery shops and public buildings for young sleuths to track down between now and July 23.

Entry forms are available from Rubery Library, St Chad’s Church and local schools.

TC Peppercorn from Make/Do Creative, which is organising the event, said the Rubery community had really embraced the idea of REFRESH Rubery which should be a great day for everyone.

“Rubery hasn’t traditionally played a big part in Bromsgrove Festival but I think that’s about to change.”

The event is supported by Bromsgrove District Council.
