THE FIRST ever Youth Market to be held in Bromsgrove High Street took place on Saturday (March 25) with young entrepreneurs selling their wares.
The majority of sellers were aged between 15 and 17 and they had a variety of items to offer, including handmade wooden items, such as wine racks and plaques, mugs designed to appeal to young people and crafted candles.
There were also other Mother’s Day and Easter themed items and, ironically, with it falling on the day before the clocks were due to go forward to mark the start of British Summer Time, one group was selling clocks made from vinyl records.
The Youth Market was the result of a partnership between Bromsgrove District Council and Young Enterprise.
Many of the traders took part in the Young Enterprise’s ‘Company Programme’ which enables young people to set up their own businesses, teaching a variety of skills including communications, customer service, costing and finance, teamwork, problem solving and working to tight deadlines.
Cheryl Welsh Bromsgrove Centres Manager said: “I am delighted at the feedback we have had so far from visitors and traders alike.
“The early Spring sunshine definitely made the weekend extra special and we are looking to work with the young entrepreneurs again.”
