ALARM was caused in Northfield when a man was seen walking around a shopping area carrying an axe.
West Midlands Police have confirmed to The Standard they received a 999 call from a member of the public at 10am regarding a man in Northfield Shopping Centre with the weapon.
However when officers arrived they found no trace of the man and there were no reports of anyone being threatened or assaulted.
A spokesperson for the force said: “We didn’t receive any other 999 calls – but clearly in the current climate it’s not acceptable for people to be walking around in busy public places carrying an axe.
“If anyone saw the man, or believes they know who it was, I’d ask them to call us so we can make contact with him.
“We’d always encourage people to be vigilant and report ant concerns or suspicious behaviour they witness.”
Witnesses or anyone with any information should call police on 101.
