RESIDENTS across Bromsgrove are being urged to get ‘Back to Hockey’ or give the game a go for the first time.

A series of practice sessions have been organised by Bromsgrove Hockey Club (BHC) from September.

They will be held in a fun, social and informal way so participants can get involved and enjoy this popular game.

Dawn, who has been playing hockey with the club for five years, said, with the new astroturf being officially opened just three months ago following the successful Astro-4-All campaign, it was a really exciting time for the club.

“We’re even more excited now we can host opportunities like this for the local community who are interested in taking part.”

She added the club was simply trying to encourage more people to take up an active lifestyle by doing a game they love.

“We’ve seen real success with previous Back to Hockey sessions and some of the ladies have come so far that they are now skilful and dependable teammates playing at league level.

“We also added a men’s fifth team last year to cater to the number of new players wanting to join up afterwards.”

The success of previous sessions has been recognised by the National Governing Body, England Hockey, with BHC being distinguished as a ‘model club’. According to England Hockey last year more than 243 clubs delivered Back to Hockey sessions and 4,500 players took part.

BHC Back to Hockey sessions will run Monday evenings from 8pm to 9pm, starting on September 19 at the club’s pitch at Bromsgrove Hockey Cricket and Tennis Club, St Godwalds Road, Aston Fields, Bromsgrove.

The first session is free and then it is £4 per person per session thereafter.
