BARNT GREEN will be making a blooming difference next weekend when it launches a flower festival in support of three local charities.

Residents and organisations are in the throes of gearing up for the event next Saturday and Sunday (July 2 and 3) when 15 gardens throughout the village will also open their gates to the public.

Funds raised will be donated to the North Worcestershire Basement Project, which helps those aged between 16 and 25 who are homeless or facing homelessness, Where Next, which aids those with learning difficulties and a local day centre which cares for older people.

The floral fund-raiser has been organised by residents Rachel Banner and Maureen Frowley and is supported by the local parish council, local businesses and David Morgan – county organiser of the National Gardens Scheme.

Rachel, a former parish councillor, said: “We hope this event will bring the whole community together.

“It’s a way of having fun, sharing what we have in the village whilst helping others of all ages.”

The flower festival itself will be located at St Andrew’s Church while the gardens will be dotted about the village and there will be a map to help visitors find their way around.

Other attractions will include an art exhibition at the Meeting House, Sandhills Road, home-made teas and a second hand bookstall in the Parish Centre.

There will even be a ‘duck hunt’ for the children and jams and plants for sale at many of the gardens.

Admission to the event will be £5 per adult and free for accompanied children.
