LATEST UPDATE - Bromsgrove Highway to be closed for the rest of the day after cables incident

THE BROMSGROVE Highway between the town and Redditch will be closed for the remainder of the day because of the falling power cables incident.

The original plan was to put in place a temporary solution to lift the wires and reopen the road for this afternoon’s rush hour.

It would then be closed again overnight so Western Power Distribution could reinstate the wires to where they should be with permanent poles.

But now, on the advice of Worcestershire Highways, Western Power Distribution will work straight through on the permanent placing of the wires and the Bromsgrove Highway will remain shut with the current diversion staying in place until all work has been completed.

The B4096 – Hewell Lane – however is set to reopen in the next couple of hours.

It all started when the cables dropped this morning leading to problems for vehicles wanting to get past to get between Bromsgrove and Redditch.

West Mercia Police deemed it too dangerous and were forced to close the carriageway in both directions.

Workers for Western Power Distribution were at the scene at 8.20am and have started work on the poles and cables.

But it is still anticipated, because of the magnitude of the job, that the Bromsgrove Highway will be shut for the rest of the day.
