Countdown on to the big Rubery Christmas lights switch-on

Bromsgrove Editorial 26th Nov, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

THERE will be some seasonal sparkle in Rubery tomorrow (Saturday) at the annual switching on of the village’s Christmas lights.

From 3.30pm, before the big countdown, there will be live entertainment, including performances by Issy Young, Sophie Thompson, Nathan Farrell, guitarist Susie Gee, the choir from St James Catholic School in Rednal and headliners The Candy Dolls.

At 5.30pm two village youngsters will aid Bromsgrove District Council chairman, Coun Caroline Spencer, to turn on the lights.

A snow machine will provide a ‘temporary’ white Christmas and if Rubery youngsters have been very good this year, there will also be an appearance by Father Christmas.

John Horwood, from the Rubery Village Business Association, said the switch-on always provided a welcome boost for the traders.

“It’s very popular every year and it showcases Rubery’s young talent as well.”

The Primrose Hospice’s Lights of Love tree, on New Road, will also be switched on at the same time.

To support the Lights of Love, go to one of the Primrose Hospice’s charity shops or visit www.primrosehospice.org/lights or call 01527 889796.
