A TOTAL of 15 police officers were called to Bromsgrove town centre following ‘reports of travellers’ shoplifting yesterday (Tuesday).

Police were called at 2.45pm and were on the scene, near Store Twenty One, on the High Street, within four minutes after three women, accused of stealing from Peacocks, became ‘confrontational’.

Two of the woman, one 21-years-old and the other aged 20, were arrested on suspicion of theft and a 29-year-old went for voluntary interview at the police station.

Sgt Richard Field, from Bromsgrove safer neighborhood team, said the women, who had said they were from a traveller campsite, were all released without charge due to insufficient evidence

He added staff in the shop had been told by a witness they had seen the women shoplifting but CCTV and police did not see or find them carrying any items.

Sgt Field said they would like to speak to the anonymous witness as they had yet to come forward.
