A MAN was ordered to pay £600 after failing to pay a fine he incurred for transporting waste through Bromsgrove without a licence.

Bernie McDonagh, 38, from Leybourne Grove in Birmingham, was due to appear before the Redditch Magistrates court on June 26 but failed to attend.

The case was heard in his absence and, after being found guilty, he was fined £600 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60, along with costs of £785.80.

A Bromsgrove District Council spokesperson welcomed the sentence and said: “We are pleased to be working together with the police to crack down on unlicensed waste carriers.”

Anyone who suspects a waste carrier of not having a licence should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or go input the information via the crimestoppers-uk.org website.
