Bromsgrove MP urges town to support small businesses

BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has urged residents to join him in backing Small Business Saturday.

The event – which takes place tomorrow – sees drivers get free parking in Bromsgrove Town Centre all day.

Statistics show that 1,880 new businesses have started up in Bromsgrove district since 2010 and the number of firms being created is up 37 per cent between that year and 2013.

Mr Javid said the news coincided with a drop in unemployment in Bromsgrove which had fallen by 55 per cent since May 2010.

And he added the Government had introduced a range of measures to make it easier for businesses to be set up and thrive, including a cut in corporation tax, help with business rates and the introduction of the employment allowance.

“I wholeheartedly support Small Business Saturday. 1,880 new businesses in this constituency, in just three years, is a brilliant achievement and testament to our fantastic local business people.

“These new businesses may start small, but with our support, they may just be the next big thing.

“We should do all we can to support our enterprising entrepreneurs as they deliver services and create jobs for local people.

“With the recent investment of £2million in rejuvenating Bromsgrove’s High Street, and new small businesses springing up in Alvechurch, Barnt Green, Hagley and Aston Fields – to mention but a few, now more than ever, is the time to support Small Business Saturday this weekend.” he said.

Mr Javid and a representative from the Federation of Small Businesses will be visiting local firms in the district today (Friday), ahead of tomorrow’s event.
