A WHOLE weekend of entertainment takes place between next Friday (July 11) and next Sunday (July 13) when the annual Bromsgrove Carnival comes to town.
It kicks off on the Friday evening at 5pm with a free gig in Sanders Park at the Jubilee Bandstand – that will feature Jam Sessions, Fisheads, Heinz-Sight, Stereojets and The Black Balloons. There will also be a funfair.
The parade – which this year has ‘Big in the 70s’ theme – will begin at Artrix at 12midday, travelling down the High Street to the arena in Sanders Park.
Among those in the procession will be the Blackwell Concert Band, Asda, The Dolphin Centre, the Stroke Association, Bromsgrove Library, EPICYouth, Libby Mae’s Little Angels, Homebase, Chadsgrove and Dodford Schools, Action for Children and many others.
There is still space in the carnival parade for any residents, groups or organisations which want to join in.
All they need to do is dress up and be at Artrix by 11am next Saturday, ready to set off at 12midday.
Carnival co-ordinator TC Peppercorn said: “We’re really pleased the parade can use the finished section of the High Street as there were some questions at to whether it would be ready in time.
“It’s a smaller parade with no trolleys this year as we knew the route would be different.”
In the carnival arena next Saturday, there will be a variety of entertainment to suit all tastes.
As well as the funfair, there will be charity stalls, trade stalls, car displays from the Bromsgrove MG Owners’ Club, dog shows, dancing and sports events.
There will also be more live music on the main stage, including performances from some of those who played on Friday night, along with Alan Mason, Midnight Express, Temporary, Kearns and Main, Zee Zee Top, Stu Woolfended, Reload, Derek Eynon, Crimson Blues, the Tom Walker Trio and The Outfit.
On the Sunday (July 13), there will be the novelty fun dog show, the Happy Staffie novelty fun dog show, HCW Pro Wrestling and band Facta 3 taking to the stage. There will also be the Tommy Wilson funfair on all day, along with charity and commercial stalls.
The carnival, organised by a non-profit committee, is aimed at providing free entertainment for the people of Bromsgrove and raising cash for good causes.
