Get a taste of life in First World War Bromsgrove at the Library

BROMSGROVE’S First World War heroes will be celebrated at a special exhibition at the town’s library this month.

The astonishing feats of those serving have been remembered through the ‘Bromsgrove and the First World War Home Front’ collection.

The staff at the library have produced the exhibition to help residents imagine what life in Bromsgrove was like during the 1914-18 conflict.

The centrepiece is a hand-knitted poppy wreath which has been created by library staff, friends, family and customers.

Surrounding it are photographs and information on display, including images from the Brotherton Collection, alongside contributions from the Bromsgrove Society, Avoncroft Museum, Bromsgrove School and residents.

A memorial from the town’s former United Reformed Church provides the exhibition’s focal point.

The Roll of Honour, compiled by Barry Carpenter using newspaper articles and photos from the time, will help those who go along to find out what happened to their ancestors who may have fought in the war.

Customers wanting to delve further can look through the library’s microfilm archive.

The exhibition runs until November 29.
