FRANKLEY Falcons are celebrating their amazing inaugural season after their under-15s were crowned champions of the Youth Basketball League.

After finishing second in the Under-15 South division, the Falcons progressed to the semi-finals of the Championships where they met divisional winners Redditch Rockets.

In a tightly contested match, the Falcons edged through to the final with a 52-48 victory.

Falcons met the Under-15 North division runners-up Yardley Defenders in the final and with both teams showing plenty of flair and skill, the result could have gone either way.

However, with six seconds to go, the Falcons took hold of the ball and dribbled it straight down the court to the Defenders basket and with the very last throw of the game, they snatched the win by 50 points to 48.

As well as becoming champions, the Falcons won £200 from HYDRA Sportswear to cover the cost of new kits.

Head coach James Robinson said: “I am proud to be involved with the Frankley Falcons Basketball Club and it has been an honour to work with such dedicated young people in a sport I only discovered five years ago.

“For these young basketball players to develop their skills with such determination and team spirit and to become YBL champions in their first competitive League season is an amazing achievement.

“Next season we are aiming to continue to build on skills and are looking to take our teams forward into competitive basketball once again.”

The Falcons are now on the lookout for new players and a qualified basketball coach.
