WORK will begin on Bromsgrove’s new Waitrose store in September.

The news, which comes after local developers the Hinton Group purchased the land at Hanover Street from the district council, was welcomed at  Wednesday’s Bromsgrove District Council meeting.

Newly appointed leader Geoff Denaro said it was excellent news and demonstrated the council’s commitment to creating a better Bromsgrove.

“Not only will this mean jobs for the town, but there is even more reason for people to stop off to enjoy our eclectic mix of High Street names and independent traders.”

Hinton’s developments director Jon Hinton said: “After many months hard work, we are delighted to have now completed on the purchase of the land from the council.”

Mr Hinton said work to build the new Waitrose would continue into March next near year, which is when the store’s shopfitters will take over.

Those who use Hanover Street car park will have to make alternative arrangements from August 18. Permit holders can use other long-stay car parks.
