A BROMSGROVE man has died after he was struck by a white van in Meriden while he was out running.

David Wood was hit by the vehicle on Fillongley Road about 2pm yesterday (Thursday) and died at the scene.

His wife Hayley said: “David was a keen triathlete and enjoyed keeping fit.

“He was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, friend and husband and we will miss him dearly.

“We would also like to pass on our thanks to everyone that stopped and offered help at the scene of the collision.”

Police are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to the 48-year-old’s death to get in touch to help with the investigation.

Sgt Adam Green, from West Midlands Police’s Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a busy road and it is believed there would have been several people around at the time.

“It is essential we piece together exactly what happened and I am keen to hear from anyone who can help us build a clear picture of the collision.

“Whilst people may not have seen the collision itself I would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen two people jogging in the area beforehand.

“Sadly a man has lost his life and our thoughts are with his family at the present time.”

The 55-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody while their enquiries continue.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information should call police on 101 number or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
