Travellers who set up illegal camp in Lickey End to be moved on today

TRAVELLERS who set up an illegal encampment on the Topaz Business Park in Lickey End are due to move on today.

The owners of the site instructed bailiffs to go onto the site and they were due to do that yesterday (Wednesday), requesting they move on within 24 hours.

This latest camp follows two more local incursions, including one in Alvechurch on Sunday.

On that occasion the police were used a Section 61 Order under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, 1994.

A Section 61 order, which does not require involvement from the courts, can only be used by the police in special circumstances.

If the Section 61 is contravened, the police can then use a Section 62 order to seize and impound vehicles, forcing the travellers to pay a fee to get them returned.

Following that, there was a following traveller encampment set up earlier in the week at Abbey Golf Club and, after they left that site, this one was set up in Lickey End.
