Primrose BIG Appeal a third of the way to its £100,000 target

A FUND-RAISING campaign for the Primrose Hospice which was launched through The Standard just four weeks ago is already a third of the way to reaching its target.

A total of £32,921 has already been donated to the charity’s BIG Appeal which it is hoped will raise £100,000 in 80 days.

The drive is themed on ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ because it costs £100,000 to pay for 80 days care at the Primrose Hospice.

The charity’s chief executive officer Helen Garfield said she was absolutely delighted local people and businesses had got behind the BIG Appeal.

“I would personally like to thank everyone who has donated – no matter how much – to the amount.

“Even in today’s challenging financial climate, people are putting their hand in their pocket or putting on events to support our charity.”

She added a lot of events had already been organised for the BIG Appeal – one school made and sold friendship bracelets, the Kingfisher Centre in Redditch organised a cake sale and a volunteer is planning a barn dance.

And it is hoped residents will come up with some creative fund-raisers on the ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ theme for the cause.

Helen added: “We are so very grateful to everyone who has supported us in any way.”

The Primrose’s services for patients with life-limiting illness are hugely in demand and the charity supported more than 900 people last year alone.

Since then, referrals have increased dramatically, especially with regard to the charity’s family and children’s support services.

“We don’t charge for any of our services and we offer help to anyone within the North Worcestershire area so money raised locally stays local.

“Most people know someone who has been affected by cancer or another life limiting illness and we all like to think that services would be available for us should we need them.

“By supporting our BIG Appeal you can help to ensure that we are here for everyone who needs our support,” said Helen.

She added she hoped even more people would get behind the BIG Appeal and help reach the £100,000 target in 80 days.

“Every penny raised will help local people.” she said.
