A TALK on ‘The Fighting Soldier – Capt Charles Upham VC and Bar’ will be given by Ian Clarke.

The event, organised by the Bromsgrove Royal British Legion, will take place at Millfield Social Club, Millfield Road, Bromsgrove, at 8pm on Thursday (February 18).

Capt Charles Upham, who was from New Zealand, earned the Victoria Cross – the highest military accolade anyone can achieve – twice during the Second World War.

Because of that, he is often described as ‘the most decorated Commonwealth soldier of that war’. He was one of only three people in the history of the Victoria Cross to have been awarded double VCs or – to give the achievement its correct title – the VC and Bar.

As well as the talk there will be video footage of a biographical TV programme Capt Upham was featured on in Australia.

Everyone is welcome and admission is free.
