POLICE are hunting a man who approached a girl in a white van and asked her to get her into the vehicle.

The incident happened between 8am and 9am in Alvechurch yesterday (Wednesday) as the girl was walking along Crown Meadow on her way to school.

After asking for directions, he beckoned her in and opened the passenger door.

The girl said ‘no’ and ran off.

She was not hurt but was understandably shaken.

The man was white and had dark hair, a dark beard and a deep voice.

It is thought it was a Ford Escort or Citroen Berlingo van.

Det Sgt Martin Grant said: “We have been carrying out a number of enquiries and patrols in the local area and we would like to reassure the community that this appears to be an isolated incident.

“We will continue to conduct further patrols and make further enquiries.”

In the meantime, he said, parents should warn their children about talking to strangers.

“We would ask children to never go off with anyone they do not know, get into a vehicle with a stranger, accept gifts off a stranger or wander off on their own.”

Any witnesses or anyone with any information about Wednesday’s incident should call Kidderminster CID on 101 quoting incident number 0175S 130416.
