THREE members of the police have been recognised for preventing a ‘throw over’ operation intended to smuggled drugs into a prison.

On Tuesday (October 20) Det Con Mike Morton, Field Intelligence Officer Marshall Irving and PCSO Joanne Evans received honours at the Safer Neighbourhood Team Commendations for stopping the contraband material getting into HMP Hewell.

Having received information the throw over might take place, the team was able to target an area near the jail to complete a search.

PCSO Evans found a bag in a hedgerow containing two catapults, cannabis and crack cocaine.

Ch Insp Bennett said: “This is but one of many such operations which are developed and run quietly in the background, where the knowledge developed by skilled investigators, is teamed with the local knowledge built up by Safer Neighbourhood Teams leading to significant arrests and an major impact on criminality.”
