A SCHEME which would see the former Bromsgrove Fire Station and old library building demolished to make way for 49 retirement apartments and 37 affordable flats looks set to be thrown out.

Officers have recommended the McCarthy and Stone proposal for refusal, claiming it fails to provide suitable means of access to the site for vehicles, pedestrians or for the refuse collection.

The report also states it would impact and disrupt the free flow of traffic on Worcester Road and Windsor Street due to the way it has been designed.

Ahead of Monday’s meeting, officers also said the proposal would have a significant negative impact on the character and appearance of the Conservation.

Area and result in the loss of a site identified for retail led development and no evidence had been submitted to justify this loss.
