New pub to be opened in Bromsgrove care home this week

A BRAND new pub is being launched for residents of St John’s nursing home in Bromsgrove.

The pub’s name, chosen by residents, will be revealed at the grand opening at 3pm on Thursday (October 29).

The project is led by activities coordinator Julia Birch.

Fellow activities coordinator Heather Mitchell said: “A couple of residents enjoyed shopping at charity shops for old memorabilia.

“They’re currently seeking old-fashioned pint jugs and would welcome donations.”

Residents are also hoping to find an old radio or grammaphone to play music.

It has taken six weeks to transform a room on the top floor of the home into a bar.

The pub will provide ploughman’s lunches, traditional ales, darts competitions, dominoes and tabletop skittles for up to ten people.

Heather said: “I think the gentlemen will be pleased to have somewhere to go and watch sport like they did in the old days.

“The ladies will like it too, but the gents will be specially pleased.”

The home already has a tea room and students from Bromsgrove School will be helping revamp its hair salon next month.

Other future projects include a pamper room for nailcare, facials, and hand, leg and head massages.
