DISCOUNT supermarket Aldi is proposing to build a new regional training centre and new food store in South
Birmingham, bringing 40 full and part-time jobs to the area.
The multi-million pound investment would see vacant land off Bristol Road South, Longbridge, close to the McDonald’s restaurant, redeveloped.
A public exhibition held last month saw strong support from the local community with more than 95 per cent of feedback to date expressing support for the proposals in principal.
An Aldi spokesperson said: “Our plans for a new regional training centre and food store would make a vital contribution to the regeneration of Longbridge.
“We are confident this site is the best location for this facility, and that it would make a significant economic contribution to the area, as well as providing convenient food shopping for local residents.”
He thanked those who had commented on the plans so far and urged others who wanted to have their say to get in touch before the final proposals were put together.
The spokesperson added he was delighted with the positive response so far with those quizzed highlighting the employment opportunities, the suitability for the site and the need for a new food store.
“The existing Aldi at Northfield is very popular, and we would like to offer the same convenient local food shopping to residents of Rednal.”
