A WALKING fund-raiser launched by a Bromsgrove teenager and heart patient will take place on Sunday (June 5).

Walking for Young at Heart, now in its fifth year, starts at the Gas Street Basin in Birmingham and takes participants 31 miles along the canals to Stratford.

It helps to raise money for the Young at Heart Children’s Charity which offers support to children with heart conditions and their families, who receive treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Max Ponsonby started the event in 2012 when he was just 14 years old and he also designed a logo for it which incorporated a heart wearing head and wrist bands and trainers.

The walks have raised £6,000 so far for the cause.

The Duke of York Pub and Feast of Sidemoor has kindly sponsored the event, which starts at the Gas Street Basin at 7.30am and has an estimated finish time of 7pm at The Red Lion Pub, Stratford.

Anyone under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a nominated adult guardian.

This event is open to anyone interested in either walking, running or cycling the route.

Sponsorship and donations can be made to ‘Young at Heart’ or through the Young at Heart Just Giving website at www.justgiving.com with the added reference of Walking for Young at Heart 2016.

Transport can be provided from Bromsgrove to Birmingham and return transport from Stratford if required.
