A BROMSGROVE youngster with a rare condition saw his dreams come to life when he received a brand new Tomcat trike after 12 months of fund-raising.
Tom Hegenbarth lives with Alfi’s Syndrome – a condition causing poor balance and coordination, low muscle tone, epilepsy and learning difficulties.
He also has scoliosis and has rods to support his spine.
Cycling is the one safe activity Tom is able to do and until now he has never had his own bike.
Stourport-on-Severn Inner Wheel raised more than £1,000 over 12 months with fund-raising activities including a concert featuring local singer, David Lawrence, and the duo Lady and the Sax.
The group donated the money to Cerebra, asking for it to be used to help a family in the West Midlands area.
Tom’s mum Judith said: “It’s so wonderful to see him able to exercise more independently and to cycle alongside his brother – your gift is a gift for the whole family.
“Thanks again for your hard work and generosity.”
Tom added: “Thank you so much for helping me get my bike.
“It’s really cool and I like to go on it lots. It’s yellow, which is my favourite colour.”
Cerebra is a national charity supporting children with brain conditions and their families.
