A FUND-RAISER is being held in Bromsgrove on Sunday (February 15) to raise funds to send a young cancer sufferer on a trip of a lifetime to Eurodisney.
The event – from 2pm to 4pm at Moorsom Way in Aston Fields – will see items made with loom bands sold, along with homemade cakes.
Similar fund-raisers have already been held and some of the family got together with Cathy Battistessa and produced a song and video.
Chloe Bennett, who is seven, was diagnosed with Wilms Tumour, a childhood cancer, in 2012 and since then she has endured intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
Recently her family were given the sad news the cancer was continuing to grow in her lungs and she had developed bone cancer in both of her legs.
Although the family live in South Africa, Chloe’s dad Chris has a long-term friendship with the Townsends who live in Bromsgrove that goes back to 1991.
Chris was raised in Alvechurch and mum Estelle is from South Africa.
Chloe was adopted into the Bennett family in 2007 and was first introduced to the Townsend family in 2008. The family, which also includes Chloe’s sister Nina, pay regular visits to see Grandad Bennett in Alvechurch.
To help pay for treatment not covered by the Bennett’s health insurance a ‘friends of Chloe’ was set up to carry out fund-raising which has, to date, raised more than £4,000.
There is a collective dream to send Chloe to Eurodisney and it is hoped to get her there on March 18, which will be her eighth birthday.
Helen Townsend, who has organised the event on Sunday, said: “We cannot think of a better way for her to spend her eighth birthday than with all her favourite Disney characters and to have such a wonderful experience with her devoted family.”
“The Friends of Chloe are looking to raise up to £4,000.
“It is hoped we can raise sufficient support to get Chloe to Eurodisney and to see her family and friends for what potentially could be the last time, in the UK.”
