First World War exhibition in Bromsgrove High Street shop window

AN EXHIBITION of photographs, maps and artefacts relating to the First World War has gone on display in the window of a Bromsgrove High Street shop.

The collection, part of the Town Team’s latest effort to brighten up Bromsgrove, coincides with the centenary of the First World War.

The Town Team has moved the antique articles from the library as part of the project.

The scheme, which also comes in response to local complaints about the unsightliness of vacant properties on the High Street, is aimed at creating an attractive and informative depiction of Bromsgrove’s history.

The Town Team is made up of local traders and the Bromsgrove High Street Improvement Forum and works with the support of the Bromsgrove District Council to create a better Bromsgrove.

As well as providing an interesting historical insight, the exhibition is also part of the campaign to clean up the town centre to enter the Great British High Street 2015 competition.

A Traders’ Day has also been planned for Tuesday (August 25) to boost footfall on the High Street.

Bromsgrove District Councillor Rita Dent, whose portfolio covers the High Street and Regeneration, said: “In just a few weeks the team have organised two events and this latest effort to give a facelift to empty shops is most welcome.”
