IT’S BEEN a victorious year for Belbroughton’s very own culinary maestro, Abul Kasheem who won King of Spice last month at the 10th Annual curry Chef Awards – organised by the Bangladeshi Curry Association (BCA).

Abul, from Five Spice Restaurant, picked up his award at London’s Park Plaza Hotel during a glittering ceremony hosted by TV presenter Tasmin Lucia-Khan and MasterChef’s Gregg Wallace.

The talented chef was one of ten others to win the award.

In a speech, BCA president, Pasha Khandaker said: “Another year of culinary excellence seeded by our ancestors has now become a vibrant part of Britain’s heritage.

“We are immensely proud of all the winners today for staying strong, focused and positive even in times of great hardships.”

This year’s BCA was more important than ever with its display of strength through unity and solidarity in light of recent terror tragedies.

The audience held a one-minute’s silence to pay their respects to the victims of terror in Paris and across the world.
