RESIDENTS could have to wait up to five years for the new multi-million pound Sainsbury’s store to come to Bromsgrove, it has been revealed.
The news came after it was announced the Co-operative food supermarket, currently on the site, had exercised its legal right and been granted a five-year lease.
A Sainsbury’s spokesman told The Standard a fortnight ago there were no plans in its construction programme to start work on the store for the next 15 months, but they hoped to let the community know its schedule as soon as possible.
Leader of the Labour group Coun Luke Mallett said the town centre rested on having big anchor stores like Salisbury’s at the bottom and top of the High Street to attract other big names into the town.
