Bromsgrove team reveals its banger for Prague rally

FOUR friends who shelled out £400 for a ‘banger’ to take up a rally challenge have unveiled their vehicle’s design which until now has been kept under wraps.

The official reveal – that the Ford Galaxy has been decorated in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle theme

– was done today (Sunday) by the four heroes at the Hop Pole.

Builder Andy Swann, welder Daz Russell, electrical fitter Marc Healey and office supervisor Tom Ayres will drive the 915 mile journey from Bromsgrove to Prague and another 915 miles back.

The Two Baldies, a Whinger and a Ginger quartet, who are planning to go via Bruges, Nurburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Innsbruck and Salzburg, will also be tasked with undertaking a number of challenges along the way.

The team is hoping to raise as much cash as they can for the Alzheimer’s Society and have set themselves a

fund-raising turtle of £2,000.

The rally will start on the May 22 with the guys hoping it will take three days to get there and three days to get back. And, fittingly, the dates of their drive fall during National Dementia Awareness Week.

Last year the Fab Three (as it was then) of Daz, Marc and Andy raised £2,683.18 for the Primrose Hospice in their Yellow Submarine themed Peugeot. That was given an award for having the second best design in the competition – beating 70 other competitors.

Andy told The Standard: “One of the lads came up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle theme because we saw how tough the competition was last year.

“We have searched the Internet and haven’t seen that design done before in the UK so we are hoping to go one better on last year.”

He said he chose the Alzheimer’s Society because his mum has the condition.

“It’s one of those charities that doesn’t get as much recognition as it should for the work it does.”
