BROMSGROVE Samba band Someone at the Door will perform at one of Birmingham’s busiest bars tonight (Thursday) to add to some Brazillian sounds ahead of the World Cup opener between the hosts and Croatia.

And speaking before playing at Walkabout in Broad Street, Adam Joyce, the chairman of the popular group, told The Standard because of the tournament was being held in Brazil, they had received an unprecedented number of requests from bosses at venues wanting them to come and play there.

He said: “We have had to turn down at least 20 performances because we simply do not have enough people to keep up with the demand.

“We could be playing three or four times-a-day throughout the World Cup if we had the resources.

“It’s a shame we have to disappoint so many people but there’s only so much we can do,” he added.

During the next four weeks Someone at the Door, which has 31 members, already has a variety of different events to play at, including three town carnivals.

They will also be performing again at Walkabout on Thursday (June 19) before England’s second group game with Uruguay and another highlight will be at the Club Legends Cup at Birmingham’s LG Arena on July 12 – the day of the final.

That event will feature stars who have previously played for Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Coventry City and Walsall, along with a Rest of the World team and a squad from the celebrity and media world.

The charity fund-raiser for Cure Leukaemia will have a capacity crowd of 3,000 people and there was one thing which could make the day even better.

“If we could play Samba at that massive venue with England in the final, that would be a dream,” he added.
