RESIDENTS from Bromsgrove and Droitwich who volunteer for the Guide Dogs charity were among those receiving awards for their contribution to the cause.

Linda Atkins was one of the runners-up for taking particular pride in the work she does.

Linda is part of the Redditch and Bromsgrove supporter group and is a brood bitch holder, collection box co-ordinator, volunteer with the national breeding centre and an active fund-raiser. Every year she is a dedicated organiser of the large Dogs Unite event.

The testimony to her from the charity said: “Linda is always on hand to help with anything related to Guide Dogs and her quality and quantity of involvement is outstanding.

“Everything she does is to the highest standard to ensure the best outcome and wherever she is will always be raising awareness of Guide Dogs to everyone she meets.”

Ivor Chambers from Droitwich was also a runner-up for the work he does with the charity, which includes transporting guide dog owners and guide dogs around a large area. He will also offer board to a guide dog in the early phase of its training and at the last minute if needed. He is also a very active fund-raiser.

His citation read: “Ivor volunteers with tenacity and passion, nothing is ever too much trouble and will more than often put volunteering before his own plans.

“He has even been known to change his plans to accommodate our requests.”
