Bromsgrove club holds charity curry night

A CHARITY curry buffet evening was held by the Rotary Club of Bromsgrove to launch its latest fund-raising drive – to buy much-needed equipment for a Bangladeshi school.

And the campaign got off to a great start with £579 being collected on the opening night.

There were a variety of dishes on offer throughout the evening at Shimla Peppers, including spicy chicken wings, vegetable pakora, lamb saag, chicken korma, chicken jalfrezi, naan bread and rice.

The HA Wahid School, which has just been built for more than 300 pupils aged between 12 and 15, was chosen by the restaurant’s owner Julfiker A Choudhury who has recently joined the town’s Rotary Club.

Bromsgrove Rotary president Tony Docherty said when fund-raising and fellowship was combined, it always made for a fantastic evening.

“It’s a wonderful cause to help Julfiker’s home village school.

“At the moment, we haven’t got an international project so we asked Julfiker what cause he thought we should support.” he said.

Julfiker added: “The Rotary always does brilliant work around the world, helping the poor and needy.

“A lot of the things that we take for granted, the children at the school haven’t got and desperately need.

“They don’t have the opportunities our children have and this will give them that chance.”

Bromsgrove Rotary Club will be working on the scheme with the Rotary Club Habigony District – the one local to the HA Wahid School.

The curry buffet evening was one of a number of events organised for the cause.
