MORE THAN 950 visitors made their way to Bromsgrove’s Avoncroft Museum on bank holiday Monday for some May Day themed fun.

Among the activities on offer were the sailing of the historic windmill by the venue’s trained volunteers, Morris dancing, a mummers play and traditional Maypole dancing to mark the arrival of spring.

Re-enactors brought the on-site historical buildings to light and those who were went along were also able to try their hand at juggling with Monty the jester, get creative with craft activities and be all of a quiver with some archery sessions.

There was also live music and a blossom ceremony which featured a special appearance by the Green Man of Mercia.

Museum director Simon Carter said: “There were occasions throughout the day where people had to brave the weather but despite some wind and rain, everyone had a great time.

“There was so much going on which made it a fantastic family day out.”
