STEVE BELLION is the man to beat on the Canal Lake after chalking up his fifth win out of seven opens with victory in the Alvechurch Fisheries Sunday Open.

Drawing peg 12, he fished long pole and banded pellet up to the reeds and down the track to net carp up to 3lb, with stockies and silvers adding to 113.1 on the scales.

Runner-up Paul Gartshore also fished long pole and banded pellet up to the island to settle for 81.4 of carp and stockies.

Phil Evans, on peg two, alternated two swims throughout, fishing long pole out in front and down the margins to weigh a mixed bag of carp and silvers for 72.15.




In fourth place, Les Ayres fished long pole and banded pellet across and down the track to net carp and silvers for 59.7.

Results: 1st Steve Bellion (peg 12) 113.1; 2nd Paul Gartshore (peg 4) 81.4; 3rd Phil Evans (peg 2) 72.15; 4th Les Ayres (peg 9) 59.7; 5th Rob Hodgson (peg 16) 51.9; 6th Gary Clarke (peg 19) 49.8.
