DAN Sweeney has returned to Alvechurch on a permanent deal ahead of the 2024/25 season following a productive loan spell last term.

Sweeney left Northern Premier League Premier side Macclesfield at the end of the 2023/24 campaign and came off the bench in the play-off final as the Silkmen lost to Marine.

Earlier in the season, Sweeney enjoyed a fruitful spell on loan at Lye Meadow as the striker scored crucial goals against Barwell, AFC Sudbury and Hitchin Town as Church eventually steered clear of the relegation zone.

He also netted a six-minute hat-trick against Malvern Town in the Worcestershire Senior Cup – a tournament Church went on to win later in the campaign.

And Church have also signed veteran striker Tyrone Barnett after he helped Leamington earn promotion to the National League North last season.

The 38-year-old scored eight goals for the Brakes in the Southern League Premier Central and came off the bench in the play-off final as Leamington beat AFC Telford United.

Barnett spent the bulk of his career in the Football League with the likes of Macclesfield Town, Crawley Town, Peterborough United, Shrewsbury Town and Cheltenham Town.

The striker moved to then Championship side Peterborough for more than £1 million pounds in May 2012 having started his career at Rushall Olympic in non-league.

And Alvechurch have also signed goalkeeper Charlie Woods from Northern Premier League Midlands side Quorn who play one level below Church.

Woods made 47 appearances for the Farley Way club across two spells as Quorn lost in the play-off semi-finals.

The goalkeeper spent time in Coventry City’s academy before moving to Northampton Town and also had a brief spell at Ipswich Town.

Alvechurch captain Josh Dugmore has also committed to the club next season along with defender Archie Crowther as James Fry begins to shape his squad for the 2024/25 season.
