FOOTBALL - Tim Flowers admits Bromsgrove Sporting's defeat against Halesowen Town was an 'eye-opener'

TIM Flowers admits Bromsgrove Sporting’s second-half collapse against Halesowen Town was an ‘eye-opener’ for him.

Sporting surrendered an early lead at The Grove after Tyrone Lewthwaite put the Rouslers ahead.

However, the Yeltz staged a second-half comeback after scoring three goals in the space of nine minutes to stun the visitors.

Flowers has now failed to win any of his three league matches in charge of Bromsgrove since replacing Scott Adey-Linforth as Rouslers boss.

And Flowers admits the defeat proved an eye-opener for him as he continues to assess the Sporting squad.

Flowers said: “I’ve been here two and a half weeks now. I’m starting to smell the coffee a little bit.

“Fundamentally, we don’t defend restarts well enough. There’s too many uncontested first and second balls in our box which is something we’ve got to remedy.

“That is a common theme. They equalise and within eight minutes they’ve scored three and then we’ve got to be careful so it doesn’t go four, five, six.

“Because we panic, everything goes out of the window. It was an eye-opener. I’m now saying ‘if you don’t want to be here, go’.

“If you don’t want to play for Bromsgrove Sporting then go and play somewhere else, I’ll try and get someone in who does want to play here.

“My job is to make this group better. We’re fifth bottom for a reason. We haven’t been good enough. We’re conceding two a game and scoring one a game. Do the maths.”

Flowers also hopes to add some physicality to his side this month and wants to change Sporting’s identity on the pitch.

Flowers added: “I’m looking for boys who are going to pop out of the trenches and start firing bullets.

“I don’t want people who are going to shy away and melt when we concede a goal.

“I want to see a team who plays on the front foot, winning or losing, showing they’ve got a heart and soul to play for this football club.

“We’re trying to freshen the group up and get some physicality into it but [nothing will change] if you concede goals in gluts.”

Bromsgrove are next in action against Bury Town on Saturday, January 17 with kick-off at 3pm at Ram Meadow.
