FOOTBALL - Bromsgrove Sporting boss McGrath: 'We can beat Redditch' in derby

BROMSGROVE Sporting player-manager Mike McGrath insists his side can beat high-flying local rivals Redditch United as the Rouslers go in search of their first derby win since April 2022 this weekend.

Sporting have lost their last three matches against Redditch, including a 2-1 defeat at the Victoria Ground on the opening day of the season as the Reds staged a late comeback.

And despite sitting just six points above the Southern League Premier Central relegation zone, McGrath is confident his side can beat Matt Clarke’s Redditch who are third in the table just two points off the top.

McGrath said: “We can beat Redditch on our day, it’s how we react, it’s crucial, we don’t want to go on a spell of not winning.

“When your backs are against the wall and you go behind and you feel like you should be ahead, that’s when mentality and character come in.

“These are things I’m looking for from the lads to improve on.”

Sporting saw their five-game unbeaten run in the league come to an end following a 1-0 home defeat against Royston Town in their last outing.

Against Royston, Damaray Anyadike scored the game’s only goal on the hour mark after Ollie Taylor’s attempted clearance ricocheted into the scorer’s path who finished into an empty net.

Sporting’s clash with Redditch takes place on Saturday, January 20 with kick-off at 3pm at the Valley Stadium.
