BROMSGROVE Sporting’s five-game unbeaten run in the league came to an end after the Rouslers suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Royston Town.

Damaray Anyadike scored the game’s only goal on the hour mark as Sporting slipped to their first league defeat since the turn of the year at the Victoria Ground.

The result means Bromsgrove sit 17th in the Southern League Premier Central table, six points and two places above the relegation zone.

Sporting went close to an opener when Aaron Roberts fired a shot inches past the post from distance after Tristan Dunkley also failed to hit the target.

And Dunkley then shot over the crossbar from 12-yards out before Royston captain Adam Murray saw his deflected shot bounce off the base of the post and behind for a corner.

The home side also hit the woodwork later in the half as Keanu Cooper’s header struck the post after Conor Tee fired narrowly over the crossbar.

However, Royston broke the deadlock on 60 minutes when Anyadike finished into an empty net at the back post after Ollie Taylor’s attempted clearance ricocheted into the scorer’s path.

Royston had chances to extend their lead in the final half-hour as Taylor denied Anyadike before substitute Danny Baulk volleyed over the bar.

Bromsgrove travel to local rivals Redditch United on Saturday, January 20 with kick-off at 3pm at the Valley Stadium.
