BROMSGROVE Rovers AFC saw their title hopes fade despite the redrafting of the Birmingham and District League Division Two table prior to their weekend fixture, writes Neil Gordon.

The league’s management committee expunged the results of now-defunct Yardley Wood which initially came as a boost to Rovers’ title hopes.

A spokesperson for the league confirmed the remaining 11 clubs in Division Two had been informed of the decision.

However, the league declined to comment further stating it was an ‘internal issue’.

Wood’s resignation follows claims they were unable to overturn league fines levied against them for various misdemeanours.

The now-defunct club quit having completed less than 75 per cent of their league fixtures.

This impacted a number of teams throughout the division.

Bromsgrove initially benefited from the redrafting of the table, seeing the gap between themselves and leaders Silhill cut from six points to three.

However, Rovers failed to capitalise on this advantage losing 4-1 at Hampton Sports while Silhill beat Polesworth North Warwick 7-0.

Bromsgrove’s defeat also saw opponents Hampton join Rovers in second-place on 25 points, with Hampton ahead on goal difference having played two games less.

North Solihull are now the fourth side in the title race after changes to the league table and they also caused an upset, beating Division One high-flyers Galore 2-0 in the semi-finals of the Holder Cup.

Chad Wilkes struck twice at Coleshill Road to book his team’s place in the final where they will play either Northfield Town or Kings Heath Rangers.

Nechells Athletic won 5-2 at Walsall Phoenix for their third consecutive victory by the same scoreline, while hosts Phoenix lost their third straight league game.

Result of the day went to Match of The Day who secured an impressive 3-2 victory away at fifth-placed Hopwood Swifts, to avenge a 7-0 defeat earlier in the season.

And Marcus Shaw made it five goals in two games against Redditch Borough after hitting a hat-trick inside the opening 29-minutes for Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons, in a reverse of last week’s fixture.

Redditch Borough drop to bottom of Division Two and now occupy the position vacated by Yardley Wood.
