FOOTBALL - Bromsgrove Rovers AFC looking for much-needed three points

BROMSGROVE Rovers AFC are looking to return to winning ways and secure three much-needed points against Nechells Athletic this weekend, writes Neil Gordon.

Rovers have collected just four points from a possible 18 on offer in Division Two of the Birmingham and District Football League since the turn of the year, with the club continuing to harbour promotion ambitions.

The Greens lost 4-1 to Hampton Sports last weekend as their opponents joined Bromsgrove in second place in the table on 25 points.

Hampton sit ahead of Rovers in the table by virtue of a better goal difference and playing two games less.

Seventh-place Nechells will provide a stern test for Bromsgrove having won their last three league games and scoring 15 goals in the process.

Should Rovers fail to win, fourth-place North Solihull could overtake Bromsgrove if they beat lowly Polesworth North Warwick.

Solihull are fresh from their 2-0 Holder Cup semi-finals triumph over Division One high-flyers Galore, and should be too strong for a Polesworth side who have won just one of their last five league games, including a 7-0 defeat at leaders Silhill last week.

Meanwhile, Silhill entertain mid-table Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons in their fourth of six consecutive home league games.

Silhill have won seven of their last eight league games scoring 33 goals and only failing to score once in a 2-0 defeat at North Solihull.

Meanwhile, Boldmere have turned their fortunes around after a slow start to the season which saw them only pick-up a draw and a victory from their first nine games.

However, in recent weeks Boldmere have found their scoring boots and found the net 24 times in five consecutive victories. Bromsgrove Rovers AFC, Hampton Sports and North Solihull will be waiting with interest on the final score from Sharmans Cross Road.

Match of The Day are away at basement side Redditch Borough, hoping to build on last week’s excellent 3-2 victory over Hopwood Swifts, while Borough remain on just four points from eight games.

Fifth-place Hopwood are expected to overcome ninth-placed Walsall Phoenix who would move up a place if they win and Redditch Borough shock Match of the Day.

Bromsgrove host Nechells on Saturday, March 22 with kick-off at 2.30pm and admission free at Rupert Street.
