NEARLY 70 footways have already been reconstructed as part of this year’s highways maintenance programme which launched in April.

Another 40 plus schemes are planned to be delivered over the school summer holidays.

Three additional gangs are being deployed to address the large number of planned improvements outside or near to schools.

Councillor Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “This county-wide programme of footway works represents a significant investment in Worcestershire’s infrastructure.

“This programme showcases our commitment to keeping our footways safe for everyone to use.

“They will hugely improve the quality of life for local residents who may have not been able to make full use of the paths when out and about on foot.”

Over 250 improvements are planned as part of this year’s programme.

£8 million has been invested to improve and maintain the county’s footways in this financial year.

This represents the biggest ever investment in the county’s footways since the programme commenced in 2009 and when complete, will be equivalent to 85km of improvements.
