Ukrainian guests hold celebration for countrys independence day

Bromsgrove Editorial 5th Sep, 2022   0

A CELEBRATION with Ukrainian guests was held by Learning Services Worcestershire last week to celebrate the country’s Independence Day.

Guests brought food – including a national Ukrainian dessert called ‘Rogaliki’ – to the event at the Fairfield Centre in Worcester where they had been developing their English language skills since arriving in the UK.

The start of the new academic year will see further opportunities for English learning being rolled out to communities and the team are looking forward to continuing to support the needs of those newly arrived in Worcestershire.

Coun Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member for Communities for Worcestershire County Council, said: “It has been wonderful to hear how our Ukrainian guests have really enjoyed our Adult Learning Services during their time in Worcestershire, and how much our team have enjoyed working with our guests.

“I’m really pleased to see Ukrainian traditions being embraced in our county as they continue to settle in to their new surroundings.”

County council teams are still working hard to ensure the DBS checks needed for all sponsor family members aged 16 and over are completed as soon as possible.

The already established and well-known Here2Help service run by Worcestershire County Council has evolved to support and link up those wishing to offer support to those who may need help or advice.

Here2Help has seen an increase in people contacting the service with various types of support including advice on education, finance, childcare, visa applications and healthcare.

The Ukraine Connections Service is still proving popular and sees local libraries hosting regular social events for visitors and their host families and has already had a positive effect on the county’s newest residents.
