A MUCH-LOVED man who started a dance studio in Rubery and went on to inspire and encourage thousands of children and adults in the village to take up the activity passed away on May 25.

Stan Page launched original Page and Holland venue which became Top Hat Disco and then Richardz.

His funeral took place on Monday at Lodge Hill Crematorium in Selly Oak.

Stan and his wife Beryl opened the doors to the Page and Holland studio in January 1966 with Stan, Beryl and Diane Millward teaching students to dance.

They ran The Pop Cat Club disco twice a week from 1968 to 1973 during what was considered a fantastic time for pop music.

Many in Rubery have fond memories of the events and of Stan.

Stan and Beryl were international professional dancers very high up in the world rankings.

They also promoted dances all over the UK as ballroom and Latin American dancers competed on Sundays at their monthly venues.

A message on the Dance Promoters Association Facebook page said it was with great sadness to hear of the death of Stan.

Stan was a founder member of the association and went on to be chairman and president for several years.

“As a promoter, his competitions with his wife Beryl Holland spanned decades and saw thousands of competitors ‘collect their numbers’.

“As a coach, teacher and adjudicator he gave his all to the competitive business and was a very proud chairman of adjudicators at both the United Kingdom and International Championships for more than 25 years.”

The president, executive and DPA committee passed on their sincerest condolences to Beryl at this extremely sad time.
