THE EASTBOUND carriageway on the M42 is currently closed between Junction 2 (Hopwood) and Junction 3 (Portway) because of a vehicle fire.
It happened around 8.30am this morning.
Two fire crews from Redditch and used water jets to extinguish the blaze.
The flames had engulfed 70 per cent of the car which had made it onto the hard shoulder.
The driver got out of the car before the fire took hold.
She was uninjured and, after being checked over at the scene by West Midlands Ambulance paramedics, was discharged.
A diversion route has been put in place, using the sliproads.
It has led to increased traffic and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
