BROMSGROVE’S Former Market Hall development will be named Nailer’s Yard, after the public voted overwhelmingly in favour of the moniker.
A vote was cast earlier this month giving residents a chance to name the town’s under-development pavilion. Hundreds of voters chose their favourite from a list of five options.
Nailer’s Yard, the winning name received 64 per cent of the votes and was liked for its nod to the mail making history of the town, with voters appreciating the name’s focus on heritage.
Other names among the list of optiosn were Spark Works, Birdbox, The George Exchange and Bromsgrove Connection.
Regeneration project manager for Bromsgrove District Council, Rebecca McElliott, said: “Plenty of thoughts left in the comments box makes me really proud to be part of the Bromsgrove community.
“Nailers Yard is a great name, allowing us to acknowledge the important heritage of the area whilst we look to the future.
“This new development represents so many opportunities for the town – the nighttime economy, local businesses, residents, and visitors – and I am pleased its new name holds such significance for residents as we strive towards a better Bromsgrove for all.”
The new development will consist of a commercial building, pavilion building, and public realm. The project also includes the re-naturalisation of a portion of Spadesbourne Brook.
The two buildings forming the pavilion will host premium office space, restaurants, bars and community space.
The development is possible thanks to a grant of £14.5m from the UK Government. Other projects benefiting from this grant include the former Fire Station site on Windsor Street and public realm improvements in the town centre.
The development will be delivered by early 2026.
