Recruitment event nets new NHS staff in Worcestershire

A SUCCESSFUL recruitment day held by Herefordshire and Worcestershire NHS Trust has seen it enlist seven new community staff nurses and seven community healthcare assistants.

In the space of just three hours, the applicants were screened and interviewed for roles in the Worcestershire based Integrated Neighbourhood Nursing and Therapy teams.

The new recruits will work alongside colleagues from the neighbourhood teams, including community nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and healthcare assistants to provide care to patients in the community.

In just three hours, the Trust’s Recruitment Team succeeded in its target for both full and part-time roles across Worcestershire.

Neighbourhood Teams are key in alleviating pressures on urgent care services by treating and caring for people in their homes, reducing the need for hospital admission and enabling timely hospital discharge.

Deborah Handley, Acting Worcestershire Integrated Community Service Lead, said they were delighted to have recruited the ‘14 skilled individuals’.

“Together with their colleagues, they will play a crucial role in the prevention of hospital admission and helping to keep patients well at home.

“It’s an exciting time to join us, having recently launched a new two-hour community response model which sees us working closely with colleagues in the ambulance service to support patients who need urgent care within their homes. This in turn also helps to reduce demand on ambulances and our local emergency departments.”

The recruitment event was one of many schemes rolled out by the Trust in a bid to attract new talent in what is a competitive market.

John Bagnall, Associate Director of HR at the Trust said, “We hope by opening our doors and letting people know a little more about our organisation, our values, and our culture, we can continue to attract such a high calibre of applicants.”

He urged anyone looking for a new challenge – especially those who may not have considered a role in the NHS before – to have a look at the trust’s opportunities.

“The NHS is such a broad organisation that it is always looking for people with different abilities and skillsets, so we’re always open to applications from people from all kinds of backgrounds and experiences”.
