WELL, there was no fooling you with our ‘let’s make Bromsgrove the Easter capital of the UK’ April Fools Day joke.
Thanks for all the likes, shares and comments and we hope you enjoyed this year’s effort.
We’ll be back to try and catch you out again this time next year but – in case you didn’t see it – you can read it below.
‘Let’s make Bromsgrove the Easter capital of the UK’ says group
A BROMSGROVE campaign group has hatched an egg-citing plan to make the town the UK’s Capital for Easter.
Bromsgrove Easter Association Takes in Every Nation (BEATEN) is hoping its eggs-cellent idea will be a hit with residents, community groups, schools, churches and local businesses.
There are already proposals to twin the town with Easter Island and the group has mooted the idea of having a mini version of the territory’s famous sculpture created in Sanders Park (below).

And Easter window competitions have already become popular with the annual Rubery one taking place again this year and Aston Fields holding its first ever contest.
As well as this, there would be a four-day Easter Festival held in the town over the bank holiday weekend, starting next year in 2027.
Activities for visitors and tourists would include the usual church services across the district, Easter egg hunts, egg and spoon races, Simnel cake making competitions, most inventive hot cross bun contest, live music and much more.
There would also be Easter egg-rolling contests down some of the area’s famous hills, including the Lickeys and the Waseleys.

Ralf Poloi, from BEATEN, said: “Gloucestershire has it’s famous cheese rolling, we plan to do the same with eggs – the true symbol of Easter.
“And we have the World’s most famous chocolate factory down the road in Bournville, south Birmingham – Cadbury’s – which I’m sure could provide us with some massive edible trophies for the winners!
“I’ve always thought Bromsgrove to be one of the most Christmassy towns in the UK with its lights switch-ons in the town and the villages, festive spirit and general love of Yuletide.
“I think sometimes Easter gets forgotten but not anymore. We want the festival to put Bromsgrove on the map and have the town declared as the UK’s Easter capital.”
Perfect place for Easter?
With the M5 and M42 motorways nearby and hopefully the BREP A38 scheme finished by then, Bromsgrove should be very accessible for most people up and down the country this time next year.

BEATEN is also looking for a traditional steam locomotive to ferry visitors in and out of Bromsgrove by rail on a special ‘Easter Eggs-press’ with egg-shaped carriages and via the world famous and challenging Lickey Incline – the steepest rail incline in the country.
Further information on Bromsgrove’s ‘Easter Capital of the UK’ bid will be revealed by BEATEN at midday.
- Do you think Bromsgrove should become the Easter Capital of the UK? It is already a very Christmassy town but could this help bring in the tourists and this could add to its attraction? Email your views to: [email protected]
