NATURE champions from Bromsgrove and Droitwich were among those been honoured by the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust (WWT).
On Sunday, Angela Jones, Linda Jones and Jayne Lombardi-Vaughan from Bromsgrove and Jonathan Boaz from Droitwich, received their awards at Lower Smite Farm, the Trust’s headquarters.
Angela was handed her accolade for rescuing wildlife in and around Bromsgrove, having shared her home with hedgehogs, birds, and frogs.
Linda has devoted her garden to wildlife, having replaced the lawn with a mini wildflower meadow.
Jayne has been committed to helping vulnerable animals at Clent Hills Veterinary Surgeries, and Jonathan ‘went above and beyond’ to help wildlife by harvesting seed from flowers to improve hedgerow flora.
The awards were presented by WWT director Colin Raven with the heroes receiving a certificate and a specially commissioned pin badge.
They will be added to the Trust’s Wildlife Heroes county map featured on the organisation’s website.
The conservation charity launched The Wildlife Heroes awards in April as part of its 50th birthday celebrations.
They aim to highlight and applaud individuals, groups, communities, businesses and schools who have helped wildlife within the last 50 years.
Rae Howard-Louvaine, the senior engagement officer for the Trust and the awards organiser, said she was delighted with the response to the WWT’s appeal for nominations.
“Thank you to everyone who nominated a hero and thank you to all our Wildlife Heroes for their work in caring for wildlife throughout our county.”
Nominations for the awards remain open.
Wildlife Heroes include people who look after their garden or school grounds, who care for injured wildlife, inspire others or people who monitor and record wildlife.
